With just one weekend to go before the ''summer'' movie season begins, two new releases will try to inject some life into the sleepy box office atmosphere.
XXX: State of the Union, the Vin Diesel-free sequel to XXX, could claim the top spot thanks to its recognizable title and replacment hero Ice Cube. Expect young males to turn up to the tune of about $25 million.
Meanwhile, Disney seems to be attempting to entice younger moviegoers and families to its movie version of the cult book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, starring Mos Def. Ads that make the film look like space-age fun should result in a debut weekend of around $20 million.
Last week's No. 1 movie, The Interpreter, should see a 40 percent drop to $14 million, while The Amityville Horror and Sahara will complete the top five with $7 million and $5 million, respectively. Don't fret it's almost May. Really.
