All About
Mean GirlsLet's see, the most nominated film among the MTV Movie Award nominees, which were announced Wednesday, is Mean Girls, which ties Anchorman with four nominations. The star of Mean Girls was Lindsay Lohan, who hosted the awards last year. This year's host is Jimmy Fallon, who for years co-anchored the fake news on Saturday Night Live with Mean Girls screenwriter and costar Tina Fey. Also up for numerous awards (three) is Napoleon Dynamite, which was released by MTV Films. See how cozy it all is? And that's without linking any of these movies or stars to Kevin Bacon.
Napoleon is up for three awards, including Best Film, where it's competing with Kill Bill Vol. 2, Spider-Man 2, Ray, and The Incredibles. Lohan is up for Best Female Performance and is among the Best On-Screen Team nominees for the Mean Girls ensemble of Plastics. That group also includes Rachel McAdams, who is nominated as well for Best Villain and Breakthrough Female. (She's also up for Best Kiss, with Ryan Gosling, for The Notebook.) Anchorman's nominations include Best Comedic Performance (Will Ferrell), Best On-Screen Team, Best Fight (for the battle of the news teams) and Best Musical Performance (for the cast's rendition of ''Afternoon Delight'').
There are two new awards categories this year: Best Frightened Performance and Best Video Game Based on a Movie. The frightened folks are Cary Elwes (Saw), Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge), Jennifer Tilly (Seed of Chucky), Mya (Cursed), and Dakota Fanning (Hide and Seek). Nominated games are Spider-Man 2, Van Helsing, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and The Incredibles.
Fallon, who hosted the awards show once before (in 2001), will hand out the gilded popcorn buckets at a June 4 taping at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with the broadcast set for June 9.
