Emiliana Torrini disassembles the trip-hop trappings of 2000's mesmerizing Love in the Time of Science for a finely etched sound that plays sparkling guitar and piano against grief-laced lyrics. Brightness is the last thing you'd expect from a record penned as a letter to a deceased friend, but there are many shimmering moments here, especially album opener ''Sunny Road.'' Credit Fisherman's Woman's charm to the Icelandic-Italian singer's crystalline voice and her bewitching phrasing — her mouth seems to curl gently around the words. But it succeeds also because, like all good missives, it's just plain honest.
