Georgia Hard (2005)

EW's GRADE
A

Details Release Date: May 17, 2005; Lead Performance: Robbie Fulks; Genre: Country/Bluegrass

Forget his alt tag. Anyone who loves the country music of the '50s, '60s, and '70s will relish Georgia Hard, Robbie Fulks' near masterpiece of homage; you'll swear you left your satellite radio on the classics channel. Somber murder and adultery ballads? Hillbilly puns? String-drenched countrypolitan? It's all here. But most classic of all is ''Countrier Than Thou,'' which takes hysterical satirical aim at hip Northeasterners who imagine themselves the guardians of roots music — i.e., much of Fulks' natural fan base. Nice!
