Getting into some funny business (3.3 million viewers)

Fran Drescher made Living With Fran (No. 168) a breakout on Fridays, but even Jesse McCartney wasn't enough to save last summer's Summerland (No. 169) from the cold reality of the regular season. ''It was disappointing that it didn't pop stronger when we brought it back,'' says WB Entertainment president David Janollari. The net also came dangerously close to reality success with The Starlet (No. 189). ''We've struggled with reality programming, and we had a lot of buzz for The Starlet,'' Janollari says. ''I'm considering trying it again.'' In other words, Faye: Don't call us, we'll call you.

OTHER WINNERS Gilmore Girls, up 700,000; One Tree Hill, up 800,000
