These burly metalheads, Brand New Sin, hail from Syracuse, N.Y., but their sound is rooted in the Deep South sludge of Dixie-rock institutions like Pantera and Lynyrd Skynyrd. On their second LP, Recipe for Disaster, lead growler Joe Altier lends reflections on depression and resilience a melodic tenderness that is a surprisingly satisfying contrast for his axmen's distinctly rude brand of backup.
