Matilda doesn't fit in with her family — a good thing considering they're a trio of half-wits. When she's banished to a school run by a sadistic principal, the neglected bookworm meets a special teacher who at last gives her hope. The character's genuine love of learning negates some of the darker, PG-rated aspects of director Danny DeVito's film, and Matilda herself would appreciate the educational and read-along extras.
