The Ring Master

The top U.K. single was inspired by a ringtone -- The German dance act Bass Bumpers mixes the Crazy Frog into Harold Faltermeyer's '80s hit ''Axel F'' and hits the top of the charts

From the land of Robbie Williams, Inexplicable U.K. Music Trend No. 763: The top-selling single for the week ending May 29 was inspired by. . .a ringtone. The Crazy Frog — a mind-bogglingly grating creature who mimics a motor scooter — was mixed into Harold Faltermeyer's '80s hit ''Axel F'' by German dance act Bass Bumpers; the result outsold Coldplay's ''Speed of Sound'' four to one. Suddenly, a Spice Girls reunion sounds like a welcome touch of sophistication.
