Starring The voices of Michael McKean, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, and Lisa Kudrow
What It's About Lowly movie producer Mel Wax (McKean), whose sleazy dealing and two-timing constantly land him in trouble with his wife (Kudrow), his therapist (Jonathan Katz), and his numbskull nephew (Balaban), the head of production at Wax's Hopeless Pictures. (The studio's name a tribute to Mel's dead parents, Hope and Les is a not-so-subtle jab at Miramax, which was named for Harvey and Bob Weinstein's parents, Miriam and Max.)
What to Expect Lots of snarky Hollywood in-jokes, celebrity bashing, and randy 'toon action. ''We have no boundaries,'' promises Balaban, who's also the creator and producer. ''It's very sexual. We can be wicked and outrageous and hop around the globe because we're animated.'' Adds McKean, ''Bob goes there pretty easily. He drives into those nether regions.''
Why We're Optimistic Pictures' nervous, Shoebox Greetings-on-Xanax look is a hoot, and. . .oh, just take another look at that cast list.
