Age 3 1/2
Mustworthiness A year after their eponymous debut, which sold more than a million copies in the U.S., these dance-rockers are prepping a highly anticipated follow-up.
Food Awakening Currently mixing the untitled release in New York City, frontman Alex Kapranos, 31, compares the process to cooking a hearty meal: ''I can see the steam coming off the stove, and I can smell the tasty food in my nostrils.''
Scent and Sensibility Okay, we get what it smells like what does it sound like? ''Wider in the range of songwriting styles.'' Huh? ''It still sounds like Franz Ferdinand.'' Whew.
Creative Crutch When in need of toe-tapping inspiration, the singer escapes to a private paradise his shower. ''I love standing there for hours with the water running down,'' he confesses. ''I always emerge slightly less smelly and have a clearer take on everything.''
On Their Must List ''Our bassist got a set of James Cagney DVDs, [and] it provoked this burst of trying to speak in the style of '30s Americana.'' Any chance Cagneyisms will make it onto the record? ''You'll have to wait and see.''
Next The album is due this fall, with a U.S. tour to follow.
