Mustworthiness The vegan, PETA-endorsed designer and Beatle baby has never been so sought after: by celebs like Madonna, Kate Hudson, and Gwyneth Paltrow, whom she costumes off screen and on (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow); by style jocks (her spring line for Adidas is a sellout virtually everywhere); and (finally!) by fickle fashionistas, who used to find her too idiosyncratic. ''[Stella's] look is the look!'' proclaimed British Vogue of her fall '05 Balenciaga-meets-Japanese line, which celebrates volume — as in boxy belted robe coats, mod suits Audrey Hepburn would have loved, and sexy, pin-striped jackets and trousers.

Inspiration ''I was trained in men's tailoring on Savile Row,'' says McCartney. ''There's nothing sexier than a woman walking down the street in the most kick-ass suit and a guy checking out the girl and the suit!''
