The Cosby Show vs. The Simpsons
While much has been made of the fact that CBS finally knocked NBC off its decades-long Thursday-night perch this past TV season, the Eye net's Survivor-CSI-Without a Trace juggernaut was not the first serious threat to the Peacock's must-see lineup. In fact, in the summer of 1990, Fox announced bold plans to move its hottest sitcom property, The Simpsons, up against NBC's The Cosby Show, the longstanding leader at 8 p.m. Both shows were bracing for battle, reported EW: The Simpsons by recruiting celebrity voices such as Harvey Fierstein and Tony Bennett, The Cosby Show by adding more women to its writing staff, and Cliff Huxtable's 17-year-old goddaughter (later changed to a cousin) to the cast of characters.
