Details Release Date: Jun 28, 2005; Writer: Charlie Huston; Genres: Fiction, Thriller; Publisher: Ballantine

In Six Bad Things, the fun, forgettable sequel to Charlie Huston's 2004 debut, Caught Stealing, criminal Hank Thompson has retreated to the beaches of Mexico with his cat and $4.5 million of the Russian Mafia's money. Eventually, trouble comes calling — and it's not Montezuma's revenge. The son of a Russian mobster tracks Hank down, forcing our hero to do some — you guessed it — bad things. While Hank's morals are questionable, Huston manages to make him an agreeable guy who simply made poor decisions (like befriending drug dealers). Except for some tiresome riffs on the perceived mismanagement of the Miami Dolphins, the prose is brisk and funny. At one point, Hank has trouble standing and then realizes, ''Oh yeah, I'm shot.''
