Discover a Lovelier You (2005)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Release Date: Jun 14, 2005; Lead Performance: Pernice Brothers; Genre: Indie Rock

Joe Pernice has always been a softy — his career as the head Pernice (of the Pernice Brothers) has yielded three lush, passionate, and highly recommended soothe-rock records — but the aptly titled Discover a Lovelier You is especially laid-back. Each track has a hard-to-miss '80s Brit-rock antecedent: ''There Goes the Sun'' worships at the altar of the Church, and ''My So-Called Celibate Life'' sounds like the Psychedelic Furs sans the furry bits.
