Poor 'Specimen'

Hey, Michael Cunningham: I'm a member of one of those hypothetical book groups on Long Island that read The Hours. Your new book, Specimen Days, sounds interesting, if a little weird (''Julia, Nicole, Julianne and. . .Michael Cunningham?''). My group would probably be more inclined to read it if you refrained from insulting us in print. After all, it's thanks to thousands of suburban matrons that you can ''stop looking at prices on the the Chinese take-out menu.''

Rock the Vote

Why did EW wait so long to publish these wise recommendations (''Dear Emmy Voters'')? If ballots are due soon, why wait until after voters have received them for your worthy list? Why not build it up beforehand with more articles on these gems? Thanks for a great read, and for supporting the underdogs!

Thank you for pleading with Emmy voters to nominate Lauren Graham. I've been a Gilmore Girls fan since the beginning and find her perfor-mance spectacular. She is incredibly underrated and hopefully voters will respond accordingly.

Disc-Content

So glad Stephen King informed me of his stunning discovery that DVDs from big-budget blockbusters are (gasp!) filled with extras that are cheap, crass, and designed to make more money. Who would've thought that Meet the Fockers wouldn't provide a master class in the art of cinema? Meanwhile, companies like Criterion and Warner are doing magnificent work in film restoration and supplements and earning the respect of informed cinephiles everywhere.
