Since their 2001 debut, the Norwegian duo Röyksopp seem to have had a pop chip implanted in their brains. The first disc's bubbly, nuanced (and largely instrumental) electronica has given way to capable club stompers (''49 Percent''), more aggressive beats (''Alpha Male''), and, for that extra-accessible touch, a greater role for singers on The Understanding. As with the first CD, though, a euphoric jolt's still missing these Scandos remain a little too chilled out for their own good.
