The Constant Wife (2005)

It's a trifle, but it's tasty: Grey's Anatomy mom Kate Burton anchors the Broadway revival of the 1926 W. Somerset Maugham comedy, The Constant Wife, as Constance, the brilliantly self-aware titular woman who makes mincemeat of gender stereotypes. (''Nobody can make yesterday's cold mutton into tomorrow's lamb cutlets,'' she purrs to her unfaithful but penitent husband before cuckolding him in return.) And while Mark Brokaw's direction incorporates an awful lot of unnecessary chair dancing — darling, can one not sit in the sitting room? — he's coached his ensemble (including an excellent Lynn Redgrave) into some of the best slow burns and dropped jaws you'll see anywhere this year.
