COURTS
Reps for Random House announced an out-of-court settlement with Sean ''P. Diddy'' Combs, 35, to ''amicably resolve'' a suit the publisher filed earlier this year to recover a $300,000 advance for an unfinished autobiography. . . .In his bid to gain nearly full control over the Beatles' publishing rights, Michael Jackson, 46, breached his contract with Prescient Acquisition Group, according to a suit filed July 11. The NYC financial firm claims the singer owes them more than $48 million in fees for securing the half-billion- dollar loan he needed to help buy the half of the Sony/ATV Beatles catalog he doesn't own. Jackson's lawyer says, ''We will consider all the facts of what happened.''. . .On July 15, a Detroit judge dismissed the $20 million libel suit against director Michael Moore, 51, filed by James Nichols, the brother of Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols. The 2003 suit claimed Moore's film Bowling for Columbine inaccurately connected James Nichols to the 1995 bombing (for which he was never charged), but the doc's statements were determined to be ''factual and substantially true.''. . .Drug charges against Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland, 37, were dismissed by a Pasadena judge July 12 after the rocker completed rehab. Weiland was arrested for heroin possession in October 2003. . . .Meanwhile, Weiland's bandmate Slash (né Saul Hudson), 40, is being sued by publicist Arlett Vereecke. The July 7 suit claims the guitarist failed to pay Vereecke at least $39,000 for promotional work starting in 2003. Slash's lawyers could not be reached for comment.
RECOVERING
Angela Lansbury, 79, who was just nominated for her 18th Emmy (Law & Order: SVU), underwent knee replacement surgery July 14 in L.A. The actress is expected to recover within two months.

Actor Kevin Hagen, 77, who played Doc Baker in Little House on the Prairie, July 9, of cancer, in Grants Pass, Ore. . . .Director Alberto Lattuada (Christopher Columbus, La Spiaggia), 90, who gave Federico Fellini his first directing job, July 3, after a long illness, in Rome. . . .Grammy winner Joe Harnell (''Fly Me to the Moon Bossa Nova'' ), 80, July 14, of heart failure, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. . . .British writer Gavin Lambert, 80, who earned an Oscar nod for helping adapt 1977's I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, July 17, of pulmonary fibrosis, in L.A. . . .Obie-award-winning stage thespian John Seitz, 67, July 4, of congestive heart failure, in Baltimore.
