After Troy screenwriter David Benioff's mind warp of a script about a psychiatrist (Ewan McGregor) struggling to comfort his suicidal patient (Ryan Gosling) and formerly suicidal girlfriend (Naomi Watts) sold for $1.8 million, director Marc Forster (Finding Neverland) had to take a look. ''I couldn't completely get a handle on it,'' Forster recalls, ''and I thought that was fascinating.''
Some script reworking untangled a few knots, but after watching Stay, your head will spin for days. When it finally reaches theaters, that is: Forster, whose Finding Neverland sat on the shelf, won't see this one released until two years after it shot. ''To be honest,'' he says, ''I was so well trained on Neverland that I don't care anymore.''
