How I Met Your Mother: Ron P. Jaffe/ CBS

How I Met Your Mother

Mondays, 8:30 p.m., CBS (debuts Sept. 19)

What It's About A father tells his two teenage children the story of, well, how he met their mother; amusing flashbacks ensue.

Why It's Worthy Sure, it's a conventional sitcom, but with a first-rate cast (left to right, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan), zippy one-liners, and a gooey romantic center, what's not to like?

Scene Stealers Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Hannigan and Freaks and Geeks' Segel are irresistible as Radnor's engaged pals.
