NEW SHOW (FOX) 9-10 PM Debuts Sept. 14

CONCEPT Corporate attorney Jason (Chris O'Donnell) has a nervous breakdown and ends up starting a new firm with a low-rent lawyer (Adam Goldberg) who has a rage disorder that causes him to hit people.

THE SCOOP ''A lot of legal shows portray lawyers as being quirky and eccentric,'' says creator Bill Chais, a former attorney who wrote for The Practice. ''[But] sometimes they're flat-out crazy. I wanted to make [a show] about seriously damaged characters who just happen to be lawyers.'' Rachael Leigh Cook played O'Donnell's new psych-facility buddy in the pilot, but her character was cut to focus more time on the law office and O'Donnell's cracked home life. Spin City's Richard Kind joins in episode 2 as a wacky bank robber-cum-paralegal. Yeah, you read that right.

BOTTOM LINE It's a new spin on The Odd Couple, as in ''it's odd how completely, stunningly improbable this premise sounds.''
