CONCEPT Two bantering, hunky brothers (Smallville's Jensen Ackles and Gilmore Girls' Jared Padalecki) chase urban legends as they try to unravel the otherworldly cause of their mother's death decades before.
THE SCOOP With The O.C.'s exec producer McG behind it, Supernatural is meant to be a snarky popcorn thriller, laced with moody songs and aimed right at Gen-Y. ''People are going to respond to that wicked combination of you're laughing one minute and then you're scared to death the next,'' says McG. But mostly scared. ''That's our promise,'' says creator Eric Kripke. ''We don't want our audience to sleep easy that night. We want a good, fun, kick-ass, scary thrill ride.''
BOTTOM LINE The WB plopped it in its prime Tuesday-night slot, right after Gilmore Girls. The net's thinking: Young women helped make horror movies like The Grudge a hit. We still say it makes for one odd pairing.
