'Martha' uses her dogs to look more innocent

MONDAY

SERIES PREMIERE
11AM-NOON Martha (Syndicated) This week's slew of daytime-talk-show premieres is overwhelming in its level of pop insanity: anklet-free Martha in one corner, finger-snapping Tyra in the other, and Tony Danza in the middle, welcoming any guest who'll stoop that low. Trusty blowhard Dr. Phil roars back with more tough love, while warhorses Montel and Maury return for their 408th seasons. And don't forget NBC's reality train wreck Starting Over! It's almost enough to make me stop watching soaps all day. The key word being almost. —Nicholas Fonseca

SERIES PREMIERE
11:30AM-NOON Jack's Big Music Show (Nick Jr./Noggin) Jack's a puppet who plays an instrument. Like Rolf!

SEASON PREMIERE
8-9PM Wife Swap (ABC, TV-PG-L) More puppets! Madame Elegante and Dear Princess teach etiquette. I want Jack back.

SERIES PREMIERE
2-2:30PM* Judge Alex (Syndicated, TV-PG) Is it wrong to lust after a daytime judge? *check local listings

9-11PM Ambulance Girl (Lifetime, TV-PG-L) Kathy Bates plays a food writer who has an identity crisis and becomes an EMT. Honey, a good old chocolate binge would have worked just as well.

10-11PM* In the Balance: Bioattack (PBS, TV-G) A dramatization about a tape claiming a dirty bomb will go off at a shopping mall. Hello, doctor? Klonopin refill, please. *check local listings

11PM-12AM The Daily Show With Jon Stewart (Comedy Central) The fake news show offers kicks off a weeklong series titled ''Evolution Schmevolution: A Daily Show Special Report,'' which should settle the evolution debate once and for all.
