'Survivor' doesn't really look like that much work
Survivor Guatamala: Monty Brinton

THURSDAY

SEASON PREMIERE
8-9PM Survivor: Guatemala (CBS) Despite the utter lack of originality in the casting department (you've got your old dude, your wacky biddy, a couple of Ivy Leaguers, and a whole gaggle of hotties with washboard abs), I have to tune in this season if for no other reason than to root for Morgan, who in real life is a magician's assistant. Who admits to that on national TV?

8-9PM Smallville (The WB, TV-PG- V) The creepy school photographer wants high school to last forever. My mustard-colored suede boots and Jewfro would be thrilled. (R)

9-CONCLUSIONPM Presidential Press Conference (All Major Broadcast Networks) President Bush responds to questions about his administration's reaction to Hurricane Katrina.

9-11PM Primetime (ABC) Stepfamilies? Turns out not as functional as the Bradys. But about as functional as Oliver.

9-11PM* The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (PBS, TV-PG-LV) Cicely Tyson is perfection in this Emmy-winning classic, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. *check local listings

9:59-10:59PM ER (NBC, TV-14) It's Dr. Carter's very last shift. Again. 'Cause it's a rerun. (R)

SERIES PREMIERE
10:30-11PM The Showbiz Show With David Spade (Comedy Central) Comedian David Spade cracks jokes about career-stalled, overexposed, or otherwise played out celebrities. You know what they say about people in glass houses…
