LITTLE MAN TATE 1991
The story of a child genius and his wary, protective mother played by Foster was the actress's directorial debut (her second experience would
be 1995's Home for the Holidays). The reviews were mixed including
Foster's. ''I look at it now and think, Oh, it's really a first movie,''
she admits. ''[But] it is a first movie, and there's something really
sweet and beautiful about that.''
NELL 1994
Foster starred as a woman who was discovered chirping her own mysterious
language in the North Carolina backwoods. ''It was just a big awakening
experience for me in all sorts of ways, because I developed the
screenplay and produced it and it kept revealing itself as time went
on.''
