It could be a tight race at the box office this weekend, as Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's Corpse Bride takes on Jodie Foster's Flightplan for the top spot.
Corpse Bride reteams Burton and Depp, who have worked together several times now, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Sleepy Hollow. Though the animated film has a gory sounding title, it still could appeal to family audiences thanks to its lighthearted marketing campaign. Expect a lively debut of $22 million.
Flightplan, meanwhile, is Foster's welcome return to the big screen after a prolonged absence. Action hasn't been a big draw recently, so a No. 1 debut might not be in order. Still, plan on a $20 million opening.
Last week's top film, Just Like Heaven, should slip to third place with another $10 million, while the new young-adult comedy Roll Bounce, starring Nick Cannon and Charlie Murphy, will likely place fourth in its first weekend with about $8 million. Rounding out the top five will be The Exorcism of Emily Rose, adding another $7 million to its tally.
