Bump on a Prog
I'm not writing in to complain because David Browne gave
a negative review to the new Coheed and Cambria CD (Music). As a critic
that is completely his prerogative. My problem was that just about half
of the article was a tirade on how the album doesn't fit his feelings on
what prog rock should do. First of all, it's dangerous to label in the
way that Browne does, and second, who says Coheed have to follow the
traditions of prog? Who says they have to be ''trippy [and] hopeful''? I'm
glad new prog is not my ''father's prog'' because, frankly, that would be
boring. You can criticize the album all you want, but don't stick it in
a box that doesn't fit and then blame the music.
