The Magic Numbers (2005)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Oct 04, 2005; Lead Performance: The Magic Numbers; Genre: Indie Rock

Hey, the Magic Numbers are a Brit band that doesn't sound like Coldplay. On their ebullient debut, The Magic Numbers, they take their cues from everything from '50s pop to '60s West Coast harmonizing to '80s post-punk garage kicks. There are pretty, moody moments (''I See You, You See Me,'' where lead singer Romeo Stodart trades verses with sister/bassist Michele) and cloying, dippy ones (''Mornings Eleven'') — but what unites them all is a cherry, zippy exuberance that is rare these days.
