To borrow a once-popular phrase of your own, Linda Perry, what's goin' on? From one-hit wonder to chart-topping songwriter, many are the paths of Perry. Still, it's not entirely clear why she's chosen to rerelease In Flight. Though her brawny near-baritone forcefully elevates dear-diary ramblings (''In my daydreams I'm like a bird in flight/Am I getting much too deep?''), without the added boost of the powerful melodies she helped craft for Xtina, Gwen, et al., it seems like little more than a cash-in, or a vanity pressing.
