WHY WE CAN'T WAIT A Steven Spielberg movie is always an event, and this one, an Oscar contender before the first frame was shot, marks the screenwriting debut of Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Angels in America).

THE PREMISE Israeli agents, led by Troy's Eric Bana (pictured), are ordered to hunt down and kill the Palestinian terrorists behind the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. But the men soon question whether their mission of bloody vengeance isn't turning them into the kind of killers they're fighting against.

THE BACK STORY How quick and efficient is Spielberg? He began shooting the movie in July, wrapped principal photography by September, and will finish editing it before Christmas, less than six months after the release of his War of the Worlds.

BURNING QUESTION Are Spielberg and Co. stepping into a political minefield, since their film appears to be neither pro-Israeli, pro-Palestinian, nor pro-War on Terror?

COME FOR Spielberg, at the top of his game these days

STAY FOR Future James Bond Daniel Craig in a key role
