Mariah Carey and Grammy belong together. She capped a comeback year by picking up eight Grammy nominations on Thursday, including citations for the top three awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year (both for ''We Belong Together''), and Album of the Year (for The Emancipation of Mimi). Tying her tally, however, were Kanye West and West's protégé John Legend, who also earned eight nods each. Following with six apiece were 50 Cent, Beyoncé, and Stevie Wonder. Missy Elliott, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, and Gwen Stefani earned five each. Earning four nominations each were Common, Destiny's Child, Foo Fighters, Jermaine Dupri, Gorillaz, Neptunes, Brad Paisley, Phil Tan, and Gretchen Wilson.
The list of nominees was announced Thursday morning at New York's Gotham Hall by a slate of recording artists including Carey, John Legend, Big & Rich, Patti LaBelle, Natasha Bedingfield, Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, Jimmy Jam, and CeCe Winans. The Grammys will be held Feb. 8 at Los Angeles' Staples Center and will air live on CBS.
