It was game, set, and Match Point when the Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced this morning, as Woody Allen's suspenseful drama snagged a surprising four nominations, joining expected favorite Brokeback Mountain (seven nominations), as well as Good Night, and Good Luck and The Producers (each with four nominations) as the big winners with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Among the more surprising snubs? Steven Spielberg's Munich left out of the best drama race, Jake Gyllenhaal ignored for his supporting work in Brokeback, and Memoirs of a Geisha earning just two nominations (best actress in a drama for Ziyi Zhang, and best score).
The big story in TV? Aside from nominations for all four lead actresses on Desperate Housewives yes, Eva Longoria got some much-deserved Golden Globe love other big winners were freshman series Commander in Chief and Weeds with three nominations each, as well as Prison Break and My Name Is Earl with two apiece.
George Clooney (with three nominations) and Donald Sutherland (with two) led the way among individual nominees.
The Golden Globes will be handed out Monday, Jan. 16, and televised live on NBC. Here are the nominees.
