Breakfast on Pluto: Patrick Redmond

The Jaye Davidson Honorary Award goes to... Cillian Murphy and Felicity Huffman

FOR Breakfast on Pluto (Murphy) and Transamerica (Huffman)

WHY? Murphy and Huffman astonished moviegoers with their persuasive gender-bending star turns — Murphy as Irish transvestite Kitten (a.k.a. Patrick) in Neil Jordan's Pluto, and Huffman as Bree, a pre-operative transsexual bonding with the son she never knew in Transamerica. It's hard to believe Murphy is the same actor who terrified audiences this summer as the Scarecrow in Batman Begins and the kidnapper in Red Eye, while the similarly unrecognizable Huffman is a thousand miles away from Desperate Housewives' Wisteria Lane. In honor of Davidson (the drag-surprise star of another Jordan movie, The Crying Game), we present this citation to Murphy and Huffman and wish them good luck in the Golden Globe race for Best Actor... er, Best Actress... um, whatever.

(Golden Globe nominations: Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy [Murphy], and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama [Huffman])
