The Now That's What We Call a Breakthrough! Award goes to... Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard won a 2006 EW.com Award

FOR Hustle & Flow

WHY? Howard's emotionally rich performance in Hustle & Flow as DJay, a violent pimp-turned-aspiring rapper, made even moviegoers who weren't hip-hop fans believe in the power of crunk. The movie earned Howard several best-newcomer citations, though the 36-year-old actor has been doing fine character work in movies and TV for more than a decade. In 2005, he had memorable big-screen turns in Crash, Four Brothers, and Get Rich or Die Tryin', not to mention the TV movies Lackawanna Blues and Their Eyes Were Watching God, plus Mary J. Blige's ''Be Without You'' video. Thanks to Hustle, however, he's now a leading man. We can't wait to see what he does next.

(Golden Globe nomination: Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama)
