Movies He Did For Money
THE TOY (1982) A witless milestone in modern offensiveness, this casts Jackie Gleason as a Southern millionaire who buys a black janitor (Pryor) as a toy for his spoiled young son. A remake of a French comedy in which all creepy slavery subtexts are glanced at and ignored.
SUPERMAN III (1983) For $4 million, you might have done it too. Still, there's no earthly reason for Richard Pryor to be here other than that he's Richard Pryor. Watching him play a mild-mannered computer criminal, you get a nasty sense that an artist has sold out to the Superman.
