Of course, George Clooney won't be the first actor-turned-director ever to catch Oscar's eye. And if history is any indication, he'll have a better chance winning an Academy Award for his behind-the-camera work than for his day job. Here's a rundown of some of Oscar's favorite moonlighters.

ROBERT REDFORD Directing: two nominations, one win (Ordinary People). Acting: one nomination, no wins.

KEVIN COSTNER Directing: one nomination, one win (Dances With Wolves). Acting: one nomination, no wins.

CLINT EASTWOOD Directing: three nominations, two wins (Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby). Acting: two nominations, no wins.

MEL GIBSON Directing: one nomination, one win (Braveheart). Acting: never nominated.
