Antonio Banderas hoofs it as Pierre Dulaine, the real-life ballroom-dance instructor who shows inner-city New York kids some fancy steps. ''It's a traditional story a guy walks into a school and makes a big difference,'' says first-time feature director Liz Friedlander. Except that it also happens to showcase a sizzling dance craze. ''When we started developing this, people were like, 'Ballroom dancing? Really?''' she says. ''Now, hopefully, their appetites have been whet a bit.... If you saw Mad Hot Ballroom and loved the realness of it, and you've seen Dancing With the Stars and loved the spectacle, I think we've created a good hybrid.'' (April 7)
