Lifeless kitsch. In Robert Towne's ''literary'' film noir, adapted from the celebrated John Fante novel, Colin Farrell, sounding like Gary Cooper on Xanax, meets Salma Hayek, as a ''fiery'' Mexican waitress. The two pelt one another with ethnic slurs, engaging in a barely coherent love/hate tussle.
