It's the twelfth in the 26-year-old franchise; so much for 1984's fourth one being The Final Chapter. ''Origin stories are often the coolest,'' says Toby Emmerich, production chief at New Line, whose insatiable appetite for such tales led him to greenlight that Dumb and Dumber prequel. Oh, well. ''You know, we're doing the Jolly Green Giant,'' he jokes. ''He wasn't always into vegetables, and he wasn't always green. People don't know this.''
