Last year, Death Cab commissioned a number of cutting-edge artists to create, one per person, a video to accompany each of their recent CD's 13 tracks, with only two conditions: Work within a narrow budget, and leave the band completely out of the visual picture (a rule frequent Spike Jonze collaborator Lance Bangs breaks, to hilarious effect). The results aren't uniformly excellent, but nearly all of the videos in Directions are admirable in their vision.
