What's your favorite song from a movie you hated?
What's the best song you've ever heard from a movie that didn't thrill you? Donna Young
From the first time I heard it, I loved Frankie Valli's ''Grease.'' The combination of Valli's Jersey nasality and the Bee Gees' lemon-meringue production made for a unique musical beast: street-tough disco. And from the first time I saw it, I loathed the movie to which it was attached. Even though I'm far from a child of the '50s, Grease represented the phoniest, most plastic type of nostalgia I'd ever seen. John Travolta was as charming as he often is, but the movie was and, for me, remains so cutesy, so grating, and so banal that it makes Happy Days reruns look like the work of Quentin Tarantino. I just wished ''Grease'' had been included in the Four Seasons musical, Jersey Boys, currently ripping it up on Broadway. To paraphrase the lyric: it doesn't have meaning, but it does have groove.
