Wolfmother (2006)

Details Release Date: May 02, 2006; Lead Performance: Wolfmother; Genre: Rock

Unlike fellow Zeppelin disciple Jack White, who exorcises his classic-rock-lovin' demons to create strikingly stripped and original tunes, Wolfmother unapologetically aim for a superheavy sound circa 1974. A questionable move for these buzzworthy Australians, except that they don't merely replicate that era's DNA — they've got a flashy supply of Page/Plant-level mojo. From the surplus of bone-crushing riffs (''Pyramid'') to frontman Andrew Stockdale's urgent Ozzy wail, Wolfmother's ultra-confident tracks could unclog rock radio's weakened arteries.
