Been There, Sung That

Comparing ''American Idol'' and ''Nashville Star'' -- We look at how the shows have crossed over this season

Comparing ''American Idol'' and ''Nashville Star''

One's a little bit country, the other a little bit rock & roll, but Nashville Star and American Idol have experienced serious song crossover this season. Here are three ditties that pulled double duty.

NASHVILLE STAR VS AMERICAN IDOL

Chris Young vs. Bucky Covington
''Real Good Man''
If you're a toothy blond kid with no discernible stage presence, do not attempt a Tim McGraw song. Where Idol's Covington mumbled, Star's comely Young unbuttoned his shirt and cut straight to the heart of every lady in the room. WINNER: Young

Kristen McNamara vs. Paris Bennett
''How Do I Live''
In 1997, there were two competing versions of this tune vying for your love. Just as LeAnn Rimes' pop version trumped Trisha Yearwood's traditional take, AI's silky-smooth Bennett managed to out-lung the listless McNamara. WINNER: Bennett

Kenny Rogers vs. Kenny Rogers
''I Can't Unlove You''
Forget the song — he gave basically the same performance while guest-starring on both shows. But holy (medical) makeover, you cannot convince me that that is Kenny Rogers. Has anyone given this dude a DNA test lately? WINNER: Neither.
