Silent Hill (2006)

Even a horror movie designed to tickle the mossy twisted underside of your brain has to be rooted in some sort of earthly logic. Silent Hill just about slathers its psychedelic sadism on toast: a burned and vengeful girl, her barb-wire tentacles curling up into the air; ash-gray zombie-ghosts that herky-jerk around as if they were trying to do the watusi. A few of the images are startling, but as Radha Mitchell (a good actress) wanders through a ghost town, searching for her lost daughter as though she was touring an abandoned movie set, Silent Hill is mostly paralyzing in its vagueness.
