A gratifyingly clever, booby-trapped thriller. This time, Agent Hunt is a bit of a softy, driven by devotion to the woman he loves, and Tom Cruise, acting with coiled urgency, makes him a knight of espionage. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays the villain as a grubby, banal monster.
