The characterizations are charming, the voices (by Bruce Willis, Steve Carell, and Garry Shandling, as critters dealing with suburban sprawl) delightful, the jokes as bouncy as we've come to expect from DreamWorks. Too bad it's just a teensy bit too cruel for its own good.
