The Cars go to the chop shop with their latest release. The rebuilt version of the multiplatinum Boston band includes only two members from the original lineup (guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawks, neither of whom is a singer). Featuring stand-in frontman Todd Rundgren who replaces Ric Ocasek and the late Ben Orr the New Cars offer up live renditions of old hits, along with three mediocre new studio tracks. Unfortunately, Rundgren's self-conscious imitation of Ocasek's new-wave vocals makes It's Alive! stall.
