The Warning (2006)

Details Release Date: Jun 13, 2006; Lead Performance: Hot Chip; Genre: Pop

Teeming with disposably goofy electro ballads, Hot Chip, a geek-chic Brit outfit's 2005 U.S. debut, Coming On Strong, rarely made good on its titular assertion. The name is much better suited to the superior sophomore LP The Warning, on which revved-up tempos are coupled with arresting lyrics. The quintet's refined funk tweaks the genre-busting dance rock of classic Prince and New Order with a modern, synth-happy sheen. Their newfound friskiness apexes with ''Boy From School,'' a stunning slice of four-on-the-floor disco pierced by singer Alexis Taylor's winsome falsetto.
