It conjures '60s folk-pop optimism with shimmering harmonies, gentle guitars, and an undercurrent of darkness, notably on a coolly pretty Lou Reed number (''Stephanie Says'') and a cover of the theme from M*A*S*H, that's pure French existentialism.
