The Libertine (2006)

Details Release Date: Jul 04, 2006; DVD Release Date: Jul 04, 2006; Movie Rated: R; Genre: Comedy; With: Johnny Depp and John Malkovich; Distributor: Miramax

''Do you like me now?'' sneers Johnny Depp's Second Earl of Rochester at the end of The Libertine, a muddy, superindulgent galumph through Restoration England. Short answer: Yeah, but you could have gone easier on the giant dildos. A must for fans of Depp and overreaching period cinema, though. EXTRAS At last: a making-of featurette done with wit, whimsy, and style (more so than the movie itself, come to think of it). Plus, an unused edit of Rochester's death scene that's stronger than the final version, and a tart informative commentary track from director Laurence Dunmore.
